Ibanda RDC Urges Boda Boda Riders to Partner with Security Agencies in Crime Fight

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ibanda District, Godfrey Mbetegyereize, has called on boda boda riders to work closely with security agencies in the fight against crime, saying their cooperation is critical to improving safety across the district.

Mbetegyereize made the remarks while addressing boda boda riders during a security meeting held at Resort Gardens in Ibanda.

He said boda boda riders play a vital role in maintaining security, especially at night, because motorcycles are often used by criminals before or after committing offences.

"Boda boda riders are an important part of our security network. Since you operate throughout the day and night, you are in a better position to identify suspicious people and activities. We urge you to cooperate with the police by sharing any credible information that can help prevent crime," Mbetegyereize said.

The RDC noted that Ibanda has recently recorded cases of phone theft and street robberies, stressing that such crimes can only be reduced through close collaboration between the public and security agencies.

"Security is everyone's responsibility. If you see suspicious movements or individuals intending to disrupt the peace of our communities, report them immediately to the police. Timely information can save lives and prevent crime," he added.

Mbetegyereize also raised concerns over allegations that some boda boda riders had previously collaborated with members of the former police leadership to facilitate criminal activities.

"We are aware that a few boda boda riders worked with the previous police leadership to orchestrate crime. That practice must come to an end. Anyone found collaborating with criminals will face the full force of the law," he warned.

He urged riders to distance themselves from criminal elements and instead become active partners in protecting their communities.

The RDC reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening security in Ibanda through increased cooperation between law enforcement agencies and members of the public.

The call comes amid growing concerns over reported cases of phone theft and street robberies in different parts of Ibanda, particularly during night hours.
